Mobile Telecoms giant Virgin Mobile has now deemed it fit to announce a new Group CEO for the Virgin Mobile Middle East & Africa (VMMEA). The newly appointed Group CEO of the VMMEA is Alan Gow.

Alan Gow is the co-founder of the original Virgin Mobile in the UK; the other co-founder being Sir Richard Branson. The company made the appointment of the Group CEO in order to strengthen the existing management team of the company. Alan Gow is said to have a strong senior leadership profile – co-founder of Virgin Mobile in the UK.

Gow had an intensive part to play in the amazing growth of Virgin Mobile in the UK from a startup to a mega company worth US $1bn in less than 4 years. He was also the key factor in the leading the company through multiple seed funding rounds. The company’s successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 2004 was seriously impacted by Gow.

Gow said while speaking directly from VMMEA Dubai HQ, “I am thrilled that my Virgin Mobile journey has brought me to the UAE to lead the dynamic Virgin Mobile Middle East & Africa team. The Middle East and Africa region is entering an exciting phase in its evolution, and I look forward to working with this highly talented team as we pursue a strategy of digital transformation, and drive the launch of innovative products and services that put our people and customer experience at the heart of everything we do.”

He also had a huge impact in the creation of “Virgin Media” group in the United Kingdom in 2006 that was worth a US $1.6bn transaction. He was also pivotal in the expansion of the company in Central & Eastern Europe while being the Group CEO of the region.

At a recent visit to UAE, co-founder Branson said, “Alan has been a key member of the Virgin Mobile family from the very beginning of the company and has delivered stunning results for the Group time and time again. With such an experienced and proven pair of hands at the helm I have no doubt that there will be exciting times ahead as Alan and his team lead the way in innovation and continue to shake up the telecoms industry in the region.”

Gow holds an MBA distinction degree from the Manchester Business School and at present, a member of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
