In what seems like a bid to reduce the unemployment rate in the country, the federal government of Nigeria has decided to turn to technology, hoping that it could be the remedy they to the unemployment menace ravaging the country.

They have designed an ICT roadmap to achieve this aim. According to the minister of ICT, Adebayo Shittu, he said that “The ICT roadmap is a component of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP 2017 to 2020) recently launched by the federal government. When implemented, it would increase Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 20 per cent by 2020.

“It would also foster the development of adequate manpower for the exploitation of the ICT industry and consequently enhance effective service delivery through its e-government and e-commerce components.

He went further to note that “This roadmap would enhance broadband penetration in all parts of the country to the tune of 30 per cent and not only guarantee job creation but also ensure the digitisation of Nigeria.”

Well, since time immemorial, all Nigeria, and Nigerians have been getting are promises without implementation. So it is fair if we say that we are already used to it. But then, we do hope that this one is different. Our fear again is the non challant attitude technology is being accorded in this country with them knowing fully well that it is our future, and that of our continent.


  1. ICT I must say will abate the canker worm behind the incessant unemployment and jobless in Nigeria. However, I hope we won’t encounter saboteurs.
