Google intra-ocular device

The idea of Google intra-ocular device  proves that there is no limit to things tech giants are prepared to do to control everything on planet earth. And perhaps beyond. The Google intra-ocular device would in its basic form be injected into the lens of the eye.

But lets not get ahead of ourselves yet. For now the Google intra-ocular device is just an idea. But the idea has now reached the patent stage. As a matter of fact, the patent was actually filed way back in 2014 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, USPTO. The patent only came to light when it was published on the USPTO website a few days ago.

According to the abstract of the filing, Google described the device as,

“An intra-ocular device includes an electronic lens that can be controlled to control the overall optical power of the device. The device can be installed within a flexible polymeric material shaped to conform to the inside surface of a lens capsule of an eye. Accommodation forces applied to the device and/or polymeric material via the lens capsule can cause a change in the optical power of the device and/or polymeric material. Further, such accommodation forces can be detected by an accommodation sensor of the device and the optical power of the electronic lens can be controlled based on the detected accommodation forces. Operated in this way, the device and polymeric material can restore a degree of accommodation to the eye that is related to existing mechanisms for controlling such accommodation, i.e., forces exerted by the eye via the lens capsule

Now you had better take note of the name Andrew Jason Conrad. Because if the Google intra-ocular device becomes a success, that is the name that would be credited with solving a lot of eye-related issues. The device would have processor, an independent power source, user controls, display and other connectivity software like Bluetooth, LTE, NFC and GPS. All these should be able to Interact seamlessly with the ocular nerves to the brain. So you see how this can be of massive help to blind people?

But again, the Google intra-ocular device can be the gadget that finally kills Google Glass. Think about it, why own a bulky, device when you can have a very tiny one right inside you that does the same work even more efficiently. Again, remember the name Andrew Jason Conrad, his device might become synonymous with the demise of Google Glass.

If there is a guarantee that injecting the intra-ocular device into the eye would cause as minimal discomfort as possible, I can see how somebody like me would want to have one. Because one thing is certain, one can use this to go online one way or the other. This could become very very useful indeed.

What we don’t know  is what operating system will power the Google intra-ocular device. Though, it won’t be a surprised if it turns out to be an Android device. Then again, it could be any OS given how fast innovations happen in the world of silicons and integrated circuits.
