The launch of the Gionee P5W last month follows the trend of Chinese mobile phones OEMs aggressively pushing out new models of their products in the low and mid-range niche. A common theme in all the phones is the low pricing and decent specs with most of them running the latest Android operating system, like the Snokor Rocket Z500  which also debuted on online stores in Nigeria last month to a lot of fanfare because of the low price coupled with some OK specs.

Gionee has now made a name for itself as a company that does not exaggerate the specs of their phones. It is a basically a ‘what you read is what you get’ with Gionee phones. For instance, Gionee M5 promised a monster battery, and a monster battery was what users got. Though there is a glut of mid-range Chinese phones in the market, Gionee must have hedge all bets on the fact that their phones have good reputations, hopefully meaning the P5W would get impressive numbers in the market.

Let’s quickly have a look at some of the specs of the Gionee P5W.

Display and Design

The Gionee P5W comes in five colors and has a poly-carbonate body. Users have the choice of picking from either black, white, yellow, blue and pink. No matter the color one picks, the UI of the phone matches the color.

The P5W has a five inch display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels IPS display.

CPU, Memory, OS, and Storage

Running on a Media Tek MT6735 chipset, the P5W spots a RAM of 16GB and an impressive internal storage of 16GBwhich can be expanded up to 32GB with an external microSD card. The phone also comes with the latest operating system, Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Battery and Camera

Gionee P5W packs a 2000mAH battery. Although this seems on the low side, Gionee’s reputation as a company that delivers on battery specs would ensure that users might find this phone’s battery really impressive.

For photos and videos, there is a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for the selfie lovers. Here too, the low specs should be ignored because Gionee phones tend to have good cameras no matter the specifications.

There is no word on the price of the P5W since it is not yet on sale, but analyst think the phone cannot be more than 17,000 naira.
