Firstly, let us pay homage to a ‘tech soul’ which just exited the world and leaves a very big vacancy in the tech world. May I announce to you the sad exit of founder of Omatek ventures plc, Mrs. Florence Seriki.
In case you do not know, Omatek Computers Limited is the first factory to locally assemble Computer cases, Speakers, Keyboards and Mouse, other than Computer systems and Notebooks in the whole of Africa.
The assembling of these components in this factory has created a great advantage to other systems builders as well as resellers all over Africa for retailing.
The founder, Mrs. Florence Seriki, according to reports, passed on at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after battling with cancer. I must say that we have lost one of the very few women who have shown absolute interest in tech.
Mrs. Florence studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Ife, Ile-Ife and started computer trading as a vendor over 22 years ago, before she finally built a local computer assembling plant in Lagos which she named Omatek Computers Limited.
To raise money for the computer assembling business, Seriki listed her company on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in 2008 —she was also the only technology company listed on NSE as at that time.
I want a lot other females to see this as a challenge to invest time and resources in tech just as this legend of a woman has done. She has set a pace and I do hope others like her follow her steps, so we can have an increase in technology companies in our country.
R.I.P MA..The entire tech world would surely miss you. Please do take a minute to pay homage in the comment box.
