Hi.. I Am max!

Taking a quick detailed page to page stroll around crowfunding sites like indiegogo and kickstarter, you will be utterly amazed at what you find. Apart from the obvious graphics show and thousands of dollar worth of pledges that sometimes never get redeemed, there is an interesting point to note. From page to page there seems to be an endless list of “extremely dumb” startups which makes you think just “what the hell were the thinking ?”. And ofcourse alongside them are plain genius and game changing ones that may change global technological landscape for good. Ever wanted to live for ever? Ever had that feeling that you are better off living a few more hundred years? Or perharps a tiny more thousand years? Well if your answer is yes, then this new “virtual immortality” start up might be targeted at youand luckily for everyone, it’s not among those extremely dump ideas. You may not actually live forever, but somewhere and somehow in the world, you will still live on.The hope that we will be remembered after we are gone is both elemental and universal Welcome to the world of DIGITAL IMMORTALITY!

Eter9 a Portuguese Social Network start up aims to use your social behavior accumulated overtime to create or clone a digital version of yourself. Started by a developer: Henrique Jorge, the social network which have attracted more than 5000 users already despite being in its beta phase utilises artificial intelligence to digitally immortalize a user of the platform. Even long after your demise, these robotic, digital, clone or virtual version of yourself keep posting, commenting and interacting online in your absence in ways very similar to your actual behaviour.Your Counterpart will learn more with each new action you take. The more you interact in the new social network, the more your Counterpart will learn about you and the more accurate it gets at “digital mimicry”.
The digital version of your self sources information about you by studying your social behavior.

Not Convinced? Well it’s not Rocket Science and here is how;

According to Gordon Bell and Jim Gray from Microsoft Research , retaining every conversation that a person has ever heard is already realistic: it needs less than a terabyte of storage. Documenting that person’s social presence for the purpose of immortalizing is just a two step process; archiving and digitizing people and then making their avatar live. By analyzing a person’s social Internet use over a 50 year period, it would be entirely or realistically possible to model a person’s culture, way of thinking, and interests. Subsequently the digital clone of the person is technically assumed to think and interact for the person based on the model Using basic knowledge base – inference engine principles.

Weird Name…
Of all the cool names that this start up would have adopted , it choose to go by Eter9, weird as it may sound (depending on your definition of weird) , they developers still managed to make a sense of it;
According to the guys at Eter9 the name is the combination of:
“Eter” – the first 4 letters of the word “Eternity” –, and “9” – from the expression “Cloud 9”, referring to a state of complete happiness

The idea is that foundation concept is quite simple, it only gets very complicated along the way. The Eter9 is like a parallel universe, populated by bots called ‘niners’, which are up for adoption by users. As explained by Eter9 techies, These bots, which are born out of thin air by means of a module called G9 (from Genesis 9), are available for adoption. The Niners are born, they reproduce and they may die if they are not adopted or if they have no purpose within the ETER9 universe. There will be interaction between the artificial beings and the system’s organic users, since the Niners will ask to be adopted by using the expression “Nine me”. Organic users will make instant connections with the Niners, with no need for approval by the Niner, similar to the process of subscribing a newsletter. Each Niner is born with certain attributes which define its profile and type (artist, musician, athlete, etc.) and they will relate to a certain number of items (pop music, football, etc.) according to that type, randomly or not. The adopted Niner is almost like a valuable assistant to the organic user who adopts it. It can only be adopted by a single physical user and its lifetime will depend on the adoption or the connections, if there is no adoption.

In an interview with IB Times UK Eter9 C.E.O Henrique Jorge emphasized that “”The concept of immortality is attracting more and more people to the platform as well as the counterpart concept, and this makes the difference. “It proposes an interesting concept of digital immortality, promising to be the elixir of eternity for its users. ETER9 is a form of social interaction for the new generation, where it’s possible to establish connections with both human users and virtual beings. I can create a New Reality where the impossible can happen and eternity is within reach.”

Eter9 is however not the first start up to propose digital immortality. An M.I.T project eterni.me also in beta phase have put forward substantial means to replicate human behaviour in similar ways using Artificial intelligence.
