However, according to reports, it appears that the latest build of macOS doesn’t provide much of an improvement to the Preview App. The Preview App on the latest macOS Sierra 10.12.2 version messes up the PDF functionality of the Preview app. It is recommended that you avoid using this app to edit your PDF documents as it might corrupt them… that is if your PC runs on the latest macOS 10.12.2 version by the way.

According to Adam Engst from TidBITS;

“It pains me to say this, speaking as the co-author of “Take Control of Preview,” but I have to recommend that Sierra users avoid using Preview to edit PDF documents until Apple fixes these bugs. If editing a PDF in Preview in unavoidable, be sure to work only on a copy of the file and retain the original in case editing introduces corruption of any sort.”

Now to the Big Question…

DEVONthink’s lead developer, Christian Grunenberg, said:

“Apple wants to use a common foundation for both iOS and macOS. However, it was released way too early, and for the first time (at least in my experience) Apple deprecated several features without caring about compatibility. And to make things worse, lots of former features are now broken or not implemented at all, meaning that we had to add lots of workarounds or implement stuff on our own. And there’s still work left to be done.”

Concluding this, TechProducts advises that you exercise extra caution whenever the Preview App is being used to work on PDFs on macOS Sierra or even when working on PDF files in general until a safe and stable update is released. It is also pertinent to note that not only Apple’s Preview app is affected, third party PDF apps that solely rely on the PDFKit framework are also affected by the PDF related bugs.
