There has been anticipation about the acquisition of Neotel by Liquid Telecom for about 10 months now –June 2016. The anticipation was brought to a halt of late when Liquid Telecom acquired Neotel for a sum of R6.55 billion. The acquisition didn’t go through until both parties received unconditional approval from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) in mid-December 2016.

A statement issued by Liquid Telecom stated that the newly appointed executives –Raj Jandu and Michael Allschwang- will form a new leadership era that will head & supervise key investments in Neotel’s networks and services owing to the fact that the company has officially become part of Liquid Telecoms.

Jandu was an active executive at Liquid Telecom before his recent appointment at Neotel. He was the CFO of the East African region since 2013, supervising the financial management and growth of Liquid Telecom’s operations in several major markets.

Talking about companies merging to Liquid Telecom, Neotel isn’t the first to be acquired by Liquid Telecom, as Altech Technologies was also acquired by Liquid Telecom. Jandu was also an executive at Altech Technologies where he functioned as the CFO.

“I am delighted to be joining the Neotel management team as we look to strengthen the company’s finances and significantly grow its market share across South Africa,” said Jandu in excitement.

Before his position at the the Altech Technologies, Jandu served as Finance Manager for Sameer Investments and also served as Senior Manager for Budgeting and Budgeting Control at du in Dubai – such an impressive portfolio I must confess.

On the other hand, Michael Allschwang had previously worked for Vodacom, an African mobile operator. Allschwang is said to have deep local and regional market expertise which will be fundamental for the Neotel management team.

Allschwang spent 13 years with Vodacom, and under his stay at the company, he was at the helm of affairs as the Corporate Sales Director of the Vodacom Group and at a point in time, he was the Managing Director for Vodacom Business.

“I’m looking forward to working with Neotel’s growing base of corporate and enterprise customers over the coming months, which are set to see some big changes to our service portfolio, network reach, and customer service,” said Allschwang.
